Virtual Boardroom App – AICD

Description

A virtual boardroom app/ solution for ACID (Australian Institute of Company Directors) as a new virtual course for members who partake in the Company Directors Course (CDC). The task was time-limited (a few hours) and was intended to showcase thoughts and design processes.

Design Process

  • Use the Double Diamond design process and focus only on the first half – discovery and concepts
  • Research AICD
  • Research who are board members, their personas, roles and the various types of boards (NFP, Public companies etc.)
  • Interview board directors. Understand the board dynamics, structure, rules and obligations they might have, the types of issues they address and need to resolve etc.
  • What are the typical environmental settings? Room, furniture, light etc.
  • Understand how a virtual app can assist a director student.
  • Create some hypotheses to test.
  • What is the role of AICD’s facilitator? What does he need to set up, how will he manage a session and what outcomes should be assessed?
  • Create sketch concepts
  • Design a presentation and showcase the journey and outcome

The outcome

The outcome was a showcase of a design process and a preliminary product solution. The idea was to develop a virtual game that puts the students in a virtual board environment where they experience the dynamics of a board, are asked questions that require resolution within a limited timeframe, can split into groups and committees and have direct conversations with other board members.

The facilitator monitors the dynamics of the board, manages time and can perform various other actions.
