Little Hotelier – PMS

Description

Little Hotelier is a Property Management System (PMS) used by smaller to medium-sized hoteliers worldwide. Earlier systems were designed for desktops only and were difficult to use by single operators or users with multiple roles during the day. As part of the product brand revamp, we also designed a new interface that single operators can easily use on various devices. At the time, 3G networks were the standard, so loading speeds and response were critical considerations.

A PMS product must allow users to quickly check in and out customers, including payment processing, quick room swapping and rate adjustment capabilities.

Key Steps

  • Quanl user research
  • Market research
  • Technical capabilities, limitations and consideration
  • Low-fi concepts
  • Hi-Fi concepts
  • Tests and QA

Process

Conduct user research by visiting hotel owner-operators and watching their daily activities, how they check in and our visitors, and how they manage errors, payments and room allocation. Video capturing and photography helped share with other business stakeholders.

Design UX logic based on the user’s priorities, primary and secondary pages and features. Design UI artefacts using a solid, responsive, and accessible design system. Test colour variations and language. Test the entire check-in/out and payment flow, including email notifications and receipts.

Outcome

A Jobs-to-be-done (JTBD) focused product designed and developed for one specific requirement. Manage a property (hotel) by a single person on a slow network in remote areas on various devices.
